. republican senator lindsey graham has revealed he says the death toll in u.s. drone war overseas. at a speech in south carolina wednesday night, he said -- his comments mark the first time a u.s. official has offered a figure for those killed in nearly a decade of u.s. drone strikes abroad. the 4700 figure matches the high end of an estimate by the bureau of investigative journalism, which extensively has covered the strikes. the news comes as the obama administration continues to stonewall members of congress on fully releasing the justice department memos explaining the legal rationale for targeted killings overseas. the white house agreed to a least partially disclose the memos earlier this month after a senate uproar amid the conformation hearings for cia nominee john brennan. but the new york times reports the administration has adopted a strategy of continuing to deny senators full access while simultaneously negotiating with republicans to reveal more information on the deadly u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. the strategy appears focused on ensuring the white house has enough votes f

were killed overnight in a rocket attack on a former u.s. base in iraq. that now houses members of the iranian group known as the m.e.k. and more than 6,000 people are without power in new york from the nor'easter. we want to get the latest from ron mott in providence, rhode island, ron? >> reporter: hey, as you mentioned, the power is story for as you mentioned 6,000 people or so, long island sound took on brutal winds and that caused a lot of the power outages here in rhode island. about 185,000 customers of national grid without power. so about almost 40% of their customer base. that's a lot of folks, unfortunately. and it's going to be a long time, perhaps, before a lot of them get their power back on because of all this snow out here. now, this is stuff piled up by snow crews, as plows coming through trying to keep portions of downtown open here. fortunately, there's not a lot of traffic. that's a good thing. they got to keep the roads open because these are arteries to trauma centers. hopefully, we won't have muched me for that today. but obviously, they're trying to get e

, missouri, with more for us now. claudia? >> reporter: well, jenna, the snowstorm has pretty much moved on but it is still a snow day for the kids and tough going out on the roads. not so much on the main highways or the city streets like this one here in downtown kansas city, but more in the residential neighborhoods and on the side streets where the plows really haven't had a chance to get in there and push all of the snow out of the way. as you mention the roads were an icy mess throughout the region yesterday. a lot of slipping and sliding. not a lot of serious crashes because people were out on the road and poor visibility made it hard for drivers to go very fast. those out and about today need to be careful especially if the streets are lined with the large snowdrifts. they might want to have a snow shovel with them. it was a very dynamic storm with snow, freezing rain. what the national weather service calls thunder sleet. lightning really lit up the skyline overnight and temperatures in the 20s over the next few days means all the heavy snow will stay put. farmers certainly hope

to the non-partisan congressional budget office. they told us on tuesday this year they expect the economy to grow 1.4%. i don't think there's anybody listening to my voice on our financial news network of cnbc who likes that number, 1.4%. i suspect you don't like it either, larry. they said this fiscal contraction, including the sequester is cutting 1.5% off gdp growth, the difference between 1.4% and 2.9%. would you rather look at a 3.3 gdp growth in year? i would. that's what's upsetting people. >> the bigger question is, dan mitchell, do you buy the congressional budget office numbers? >> that's a conventional forecast. >> it may be a conventional forecast but it could also be wrong. dan mitchell, i want your professional opinion. we spent our heads off for the still luck package in 2009. this is still the worst economic recovery in the postwar period. dan, why not try limited government? or let me put it a different way, slightly less spending, is that good or bad for the economy? >> the congressional budget office is still wedded to the 1950s, 1960s style keynesian model. more govern

"news nation" following this massive winter storm barrelling in to the northeast. it's already brought travel to a grinding halt. this is video, in fact, just coming in. the snow being blamed for a 19-car pile-up on an interstate in southern maine. state police say there were several minor injuries but you see a lot of damage to those cars and right now blizzard warnings extend from new jersey up to maine and there are some other pictures we have coming in. parts of michigan hit with more than ten inches of snow overnight. new york would get up to 15 inches. hartford, connecticut, up to two feet. meantime, massachusetts is now under a state of emergency. these are pictures from boston where residents are bracing for up to three feet of snow. that would be enough to break the all-time record set exactly ten years ago. we're also keeping a close eye on new jersey which could get blanketed up to ten inches three months after sandy devastated th

rail service in the northeast. meteorologist julie martin is tracking the storm for us. julie, where are seeing i guess the most intense snowfall right now? >> from connecticut to maine and massachusetts but really to put it in perspective, we are just getting going here. this storm just starting to wind up. in cities like boston, dealing with a slushy mess and snow right now. maine heavy snow for you. new york, just starting to turn over to snow but by the evening rush around 5:00 p.m. really going to get blasted there in new york city. heavy snow expected tonight. could pick up another eight inches to a foot and the word of caution today is get out early, get off the roads. many governors wanting you to do that very thing. here's a look at tomorrow then. still dealing with blizzard-like conditions in the cities including boston. this is a long duration of that and that's a problem with this system. storm:con for boston is a 10. that's the highest level here at the weather channel. you need caution with this. seeing the blizzard-like conditions, additional 12 to 18 inches tonight. t
